The historical Turbine–VEX relationship
In April 2023, Josh Studl described VEX Robotics as an early Turbine partner and customer. He wrote about bringing employer-driven job skills, OJT, and registered apprenticeship into the VEX educational ecosystem.
VEX supplied robotics tools, competitions, curricula, and professional development. The original post proposed extending hands-on practice beyond classrooms; it did not document an employer's training return or prove that robotics improved retention.
A sponsor's practical use case
A robot workcell can let learners practice programming, sensor checks, and troubleshooting before working with live equipment. To count toward an apprenticeship, the sponsor must relate that practice to its approved occupation and distinguish simulated exercises from supervised work on the job.
For a current Apprentage conversation, identify the skill standard, record what the apprentice did at work, and have the mentor review the evidence before a competency sign-off. Discuss how those records could be organized in a demo; the 2023 Turbine relationship is not evidence of a current Apprentage–VEX partnership.
