CCAC’s 2022 IMT apprenticeships: connecting instruction and OJT records

From the Turbine Workforce archive. Historical organizations and product names describe the work at the time, not current Apprentage customer relationships.

In July 2022, CCAC Workforce announced Industrial Manufacturing Technician (IMT) apprenticeships using Turbine for course delivery and administration. The original post described 12 apprentices from Impact Guard and McConway & Torley, LLC. This historical Turbine work should not be relabeled an Apprentage deployment.

The announced pathway

The post described an approximately 18-month program with 264 hours of coursework and 2,736 hours of on-the-job training. CCAC's MEC 100 and MEC 102 courses covered safety, quality, manufacturing processes and production, and maintenance awareness.

The post said apprentices who completed the courses could stand for the Manufacturing Skill Standards Council's Certified Production Technician (CPT) certificate. That opportunity was not a claim that all 12 earned the credential.

An update in the original post anticipated another IMT cohort in January 2023; it did not confirm one launched. Dr. Justin Starr, CCAC professor of Mechatronics and Advanced Manufacturing, was thanked for supporting Turbine and administering MEC courses. The original post also anticipated an apprenticeship feature announcement in August 2022.

Its prediction that Turbine administration would save “thousands of hours” supplied no measurement, so it should be understood as a 2022 expectation, not an observed result.

Why this matters for sponsors

The separation of coursework and supervised work in the IMT schedule shows why a sponsor needs both RTI completion records and OJT evidence. Today, Apprentage organizes those records and program operations for sponsors and intermediaries; it does not retroactively change the product used in 2022.
