Industry 4.0 topics for apprenticeship instruction planning

Aug 19, 2021 — by Josh Studl

From the Turbine Workforce archive. Historical organizations and product names describe the work at the time, not current Apprentage customer relationships.

In this 2021 note, Josh Studl reported nine emerging, data-intensive manufacturing technologies identified by the Manufacturing Skill Standards Council (MSSC). It was a topic list, not evidence that Turbine or Apprentage taught each subject.

The original list

The topics were 5G, artificial intelligence, industrial Internet of Things, additive manufacturing, autonomous robots, augmented reality, data analytics, nanomanufacturing and advanced materials.

What sponsors can do with it

An apprenticeship sponsor can compare these topics with an occupation's work process schedule and related instruction outline. Only skills relevant to actual employer tasks belong in that program's training plan.

Apprentage helps sponsors coordinate instruction and OJT evidence against their program requirements. The 2021 list is a starting point for curriculum discussion, not a claim about courses delivered or apprentice outcomes.

Source context

This historical list was attributed to MSSC; the original note did not link to a specific MSSC publication for the nine topics.
